Dedicated to the memory of Megan

This site is a tribute to Meg, who was born in Leeds on September 16, 1993 at St James' Hospital, Leeds.  She was a very premature baby, at 28 weeks, and spent the first two and a half months of her life in special care baby units at both St James' and Harrogate District Hospital.  This didn't hold her back for long and she very quickly caught up with full term babies so that by 14 months she was walking and once she started talking, there was no stopping her.  Her intelligence and creativity shone from a young age and she was always a very popular and well liked pupil at both primary and high school, achieving impressive exam results.  As a beautiful little girl who grew into a stunning teenager people always commented on her lovely smile and stunning blue eyes.  She was a first child and a first grandchild and was completely adored.

Meg chose to study Fine Art in York after finishing A levels and she bravely learned to live independently, away from home, and worked hard on her studies, whilst developing some great friendships in York.  She was growing into a  very lovely young woman with a greater understanding of life and as her mum it was fantastic to spend time with her as a friend as well as a wilful daughter!   Friends of Meg's from both school and university loved her kindness, lack of guile, intelligence and her sense of humour.  She was a loyal and empathetic friend to all who knew her.

On 22nd January 2014 Megan set out for a great night out in York along with many other students.  She lost her life in the river Ouse near Lendal bridge at around 2.20 a.m. on Thursday 23rd January after becoming separated from friends on the way home.  Our hearts were broken and our lives changed forever.

Megan is very much loved and will always be part of our lives.  She would be incredibly proud of how her younger sister and brother are growing up and they will carry her with them always.     Friends and family have already organised several events in memory of Megan, raising thousands of pounds in total for RLSS and the York Rescue Boat charity.  Her memory has helped raise awareness to prevent other families losing loved ones in such tragic circumstances.
